This piece requires a performer to coax sounds out of exposed circuit boards from old cassette tape recorders by shorting out contact points with his or her fingers. The resultant sounds, which were never intended by the original manufacturer, exhibit a surprisingly wide array of tonal and timbral possibilities: from near-pure tone shrieks to slow, square wave bass rumble. The nature of this instrument is largely indeterminate as factors such as pressure, skin moisture, and exactitude of finger placement all have a great effect on the sounds' character.
